Following our engagement with National Highways at the turn of the year, we've been included in the distribution of the letter below outlining the organisation's plans for the junction.

Amongst other things, it confirms there are no plans to replace the footbridge and details what measures will be delivered in its place, with work due to begin as soon as Saturday 8th November.

Importantly, there will be public information events, which offer an opportunity for local residents, school parents, pupils, staff and everyone from surrounding communities to share their views on the proposals.

Based on the strength of feeling around the loss of this footbridge, this looks and feels like a decision based on cost, not safety.

Whilst we understand the need to make crossings accessible to people of all abilities, this decision ignores the proximity of the school and the volume of traffic on this route at peak times. Above all, National Highways is ignoring the results of its own consultation exercise which clearly demonstrated the public's desire for the bridge to be replaced. We share local residents' concerns that someone will be seriously injured, or worse.

Details of these sessions can be seen below, or by visiting the project's website here.
